DROP-IN CLINIC FAQs

Q: Can anyone attend the clinics?
A:  YES!  The clinics are open to all girls who are age-eligible under USAV guidelnes (basically, all girls up to and including high school seniors-age 18 and under).

Q:  How are the clinics structured?
A: We usually will have some skill-specific instructions on various techniques, with "hands-on" repetitions of that instruction.  We  cover multiple skills and techniques each clinic. (We try to divide up into skill level appropriate groupings; although it is sometimes not possible to get the ideal groupings due to numbers, age levels, etc)  Following the skill instruction, we usually will try to play competitive games for at least one hour where different skills will be emphasized.  While each clinic does not cover every skill, over a period of time the clinics will offer good coverage of all the major volleyball skills.

Q:  I'm thinking of trying out for Delta Valley.  Are the clinics mandatory?
A:  No.  However we do encourage those who want to tryout to come to at least a few of the clinics to meet the coaches and see how we do things.  Tryouts are a very stressful time, players can have an "off-day" or coaches may fail to notice things or be focused elsewhere during that brief encounter.  The clinics are a good way for coaches and players to interact and evaluate each other in a less stressful and more relaxed setting.  One would also think that coaches could get a better sense of players' abilities, attitude, coachability, work ethic, etc. if he/she could see them in different situations over a period of time rather than during a single brief tryout session.
